Identify both sides of the joint
Record the carburetor manufacturer and model, equipment manufacturer and model, engine, mounting location, and which face is shown. Mark top, bottom, front, and manifold side in the photo or drawing.
Measure these features
- Overall outside width and height.
- Main bore diameter or opening dimensions.
- Mounting-hole diameters and center-to-center distances.
- Every fuel, vacuum, idle, and vent passage.
- Slot width, length, and end radius.
- Edge distances that establish passage location.
- Original thickness, noting compression or damage.
Choose the strongest capture method
A flatbed scan at 300 dpi or higher is often effective for a complete flat gasket. Include a direct caliper measurement. If the gasket is damaged, also photograph both mating faces and mark missing areas. A service drawing is preferable when available.
Material questions to answer
Document the actual fuel, additives, temperature, vacuum or pressure, flange condition, and manufacturer requirements. Gasket fiber and Buna-N have different broad tendencies, but the exact grade and application control suitability. Do not infer compatibility from color or family name.
Proof review checklist
- Overlay or place the proof beside the original at known scale.
- Count and identify every passage.
- Confirm orientation and bolt-hole centers.
- Verify that no gasket material blocks a required opening.
- Confirm material and thickness with reliable application requirements.
For a simple two-bolt layout, the editable carburetor-style template can be a starting point. It is not a fitment claim; replace every dimension with measurements from your part.
